After the streets of Baku, the Red Bull Ring, located in the mountains, is the setting for the second sprint race of the 2023 Formula 1 season. Therefore, the schedule has been changed considerably to make room for Saturday’s short race. Due to qualifying on Friday and the new sprint race on Saturday morning, the whole of Saturday is now dominated by the sprint race. On Sunday it will be Grand Prix time as usual.
Viaplay F1 broadcasts Friday, June 30, 2023
The second sprint race of the 2023 Formula 1 season will be held in Spielberg. This means that qualifying for the Grand Prix on Sunday has been moved to Friday. Before that, drivers will have an hour to explore the Red Bull Ring and find the best possible set-up. The transmission of the first free practice starts at 13:25, five minutes before the beginning of the session. Commentary on VT1 comes from regular F1 voices Nelson Valkenburg and Melroy Heemskerk.
In the late afternoon it’s time for qualifying. Viaplay starts the broadcast at 4:45 pm with a short preview, in which presenter Amber Brantsen anticipates the upcoming session with analysts Tom Coronel, Giedo van der Garde and Ernest Knoors. They discuss the most important topics in Formula 1 and talk with reporter Chiel van Koldenhoven in Spielberg. Live reporting from qualifying begins at 4.55pm, with Valkenburg and Heemskerk serving as commentators. Segments are exchanged with analysts in the studio.
Immediately after qualifying, it’s time for the Shakedown talk show. Brantsen, along with Coronel, Van der Garde and Knoors, look back on qualifying and discuss the sport’s most important topics. The broadcast starts at 6:05 pm and lasts for one hour.

This determines the starting order for the sprint race. The session will be broadcast live on Viaplay, which will start the broadcast at 11:45 am with a short preview. Host Amber Brantsen previews the upcoming action with analysts Tom Coronel and Giedo van der Garde. The live stream starts at 11:55 am, with Nelson Valkenburg and Melroy Heemskerk commenting on the footage. The program runs until 13:30.
At 4:30 pm, it’s time for the sprint in Austria. Viaplay starts at 4 pm with a preview, in which Brantsen, Coronel and Van der Garde look forward to the second sprint race of the season. They exchange with reporter Chiel van Koldenhoven for the latest news from the paddock and pit lane. At 4.25pm the live report will switch over, with commentary from Valkenburg and Heemskerk again. After the short race, the most important drivers are dragged in front of the camera and studio analysts reminisce about the most important moments.

The ninth race of the 2023 Formula 1 season is scheduled for Sunday. The Austrian Grand Prix starts at the normal start time of 3pm, but Viaplay will start the race preview at 2pm. Presenter Amber Brantsen and analysts Tom Coronel and Giedo van der Garde discuss the weekend’s hottest issues and look to the future, while reporter Chiel van Koldenhoven is regularly changed at the Red Bull Ring. The live report starts at 12.55pm, with regular F1 reporters Nelson Valkenburg and Melroy Heemskerk providing commentary. They are assisted by Allard Kalff of the Virtual Race Room. After the race, the podium ceremony is deactivated and Van Koldenhoven puts the protagonists in front of the cameras. In the studio, there is still a lot of discussion about the most important moments.
