Storm Damage
If your house was affected by last weeks storms (18th January 07) this weekend would be a good time to take stock of the damage and get any necessary repairs underway.
Kerb Appeal - Always top of the list! Are there any fallen trees or branches that need removing? Any fence panels that have blown out? or even blown away! Is your front garden strewn with leaves, twigs, crisp wrappers - time to give it a good sweep.
Exterior - When its stopped raining…. have a good look at your roof. Have any tiles been damaged? Is the flashing around your chimney intact? Has the guttering moved? Check the roof from the inside too by going into the loft and looking for daylight!
Garden - How is your garden after the storm? You might have got away lightly and just need a general tidy up. Or many people will have broken fences and uprooted trees to deal with.
Don’t put off reporting any damage that has occurred to your insurance company. It may well be that the damage will be covered on your buildings insurance. But they will need to be told about it quickly.
In the meantime carry on marketing your house for sale. Your buyers will be reassured that any remedial work is in hand and will be completed before the house sale completes.
Don’t wait until the buyers surveyer finds the storm damage, it may then be too late to claim on your insurance and could result in you accepting a lower offer for your house.
The good news is that spring seems to be just round the corner, so the worst of the winter storms may be over.
